Bangkok, Thailand / September 24th, 2019/

In an index created by the website 'Happy Planet Index,' Thailand has recently ranked the 9th happiest country in the world when it comes to the sustainable wellbeing of the country. Thailand was one of two countries in the South-East Asia region to rank in the top 10.

This figure comes as a surprise to many, as countries such as the USA and many economically powerful countries across Europe failed to make it into the top 50 of 140 countries.

According to the Happy Planet Index website 'Wealthy Western countries, often seen as the standard of success, do not rank highly on the Happy Planet Index. Instead, several countries in Latin America and the Asia Pacific region lead the way by achieving high life expectancy and wellbeing with much smaller Ecological Footprints.'

The Index creators rank each country using a number of factors such as life expectancy, wellbeing and how satisfied citizens say that they are with the standard of living.

In the west, it is not uncommon to see news articles about countries like Thailand that cast a negative light on how poorer countries take care of the environment and human rights of their citizens. For this reason, many people may find it hard to believe that the information gathered by the HPI is in fact accurate.

However, many people believe that Thailand deserves it's high spot on the HPI, as the country has a reputation for being home to some of the happiest people on earth.

For travelers visiting Thailand, the country is often referred to as the 'land of smiles' thanks to the friendly and warm way in which Thai people greet one another and take care of guests. Thailand is also home to some of the most prestigious hotels in the world and Thai hospitality chains like Centre Point are well known for making visitors from around the world feel welcomed when visiting Thailand.

Whether or not the HPI rankings provide an accurate representation of happiness and wellbeing of citizens within countries is still unclear, but it seems that western nations may soon have to look to less economically developed nations for insights on how to increase life expectancy and happiness.

Source: Centre Point Hospitality

Contact: centrepoint.com/contact-us
